The debate over "renewable" energy is premature. Before we look for "green" ways to generate power, we ought to quit wasting so much of the power we already generate.

Well, energy efficiency isn't usually the selling point used for recycling. Usually, it's about supposed scarcity of resources (ie, you save trees by recycling paper) or supposed scarcity of landfill space. I'm not saying these are necessarily true, but they're the argument used, not energy efficiency.
