Category: War on Terror

The 'War on Terror' is a fairly poor name for the 'Third World War Against Totalitarianism'. WWII was a war against Nazi totalitarianism. The Cold War was about communist totalitarianism and now it's fundamental Islamic totalitarianism. The fight is the same every time: the fight for freedom against those who would — in the name of a Master Race or the Rights of the Worker or in the name of God Himself — seek to take away our freedoms so that we might live according to their ideal. Each time it's the idea of personal freedom to live as you like up against the idea that there is just one right way to live. I'm on the side of freedom and I'm going to stay there.

We won!

Zombie has decided to declare victory in Iraq and I agree.

Dreams of the Information War

All conflict now is an information war, but we don't act like we've figured this out yet.

War in Iraq was inevitable after 9/11

After the 9/11 attacks, Bush had a very good reason to attack Iraq - and it had nothing to do with WMD's

Counterinsurgency in a Nutshell

Counterinsurgency is not war and you have to apply different metrics to judge your success

Why the news media will always get it wrong

There is a reason that the news media has consistently gotten the big stories of the last couple of centuries wrong. It's easy to demonstrate and easy to understand.

We Win, They Lose

I signed the petition, you should too

Steven Weinstein, beloved husband and father

Steven was killed in the North Tower by the impact of American Airlines Flight 11. He was only 50 years old. He is missed by his wife and daughter, of course, but also by all of us who never got the chance to know him.

Borders book stores: Cowards

Borders book stores say that they are "committed" to the First Amendment, but the minute there is even a possibility of danger, they drop that commitment and run away like little surrender monkeys.

War on Terror Reading List

A reading list for dealing with and understanding the War on Terror. Also, some notes about what you will learn as you study the big picture.

Support Free Speech

The Dissident Frogman has kindly prepared banners to allow us to show our solidarity with Denmark over the right to free speech:

Any way you look at it, free speech is a hundred times more important than the right not to be offended. Some religion, somewhere can find a way to object to anything we say. If we restrict ourselves only to that which is offensive to no one, no where, then there is nothing left to say.

No god but God

Reza Aslan's book does more than explain the history of Islam. It explains a lot about the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East today.

Iraq, The Model

This blog is by two brothers who live in Baghdad. Their insight into the local situation is about a hundred times more useful that the average network reporter "embedded" at the bar of the Palestine Hotel.

Evil

We are right and they are evil and I can prove it.

Why They Hate Us

Today seems like a good day to cover a little of the history of Islamic Totalitarianism and understand clearly "why they hate us".

Islam

Islam is really being hijacked these days.

Treasonous Moonbats

You know, once upon a time, I actually donated to Amnesty International. Back in those days, they at least seemed to be truly interested in human rights violations and prisoners being abused around the world. Now, they seem to have degenerated into a bunch of self-hating moonbats.

Iraqi Bloggers

The Iraqi bloggers are genuine and they laugh at the idea that the CIA is paying them to paint a rosy picture of Iraq (which they do not).

Terror and Liberalism

Paul Berman's book takes a deep look at the origins of Islamist Extremism.

Accountability

The Iraqi elections went off better than predicted. Whose fault is that?

Alternatives

What would the liberals do differently than Bush in the War on Terror?

Glass Half Full

The news isn't always as depressing as NPR would have you believe.

Fallujah Victory

We won big in Fallujah, but no one seems to want to talk about it.
